La Tempesta – Eng

Music: Francesco Rossi
Lyrics: Massimo Cadamuro

Second to the last of Shakespeare’s works, The Tempest is perhaps the most prominent and popular of his plays.  The vicissitudes of Prospero, Duke of Milan, a type of the author’s alter ego and of the other characters, are given here in a musical version.  An original libretto in hendecasyllable verses based on Shakespeare’s tale, is put to music for soloists, choir and orchestra.  Prospero is the Renaissance man who builds, understands and reshapes the world in which he lives and works in because of a superior fate.  He overtakes the intelligence and creativity possessed by all the other creatures.  As well as having knowledge of every visible and invisible being.  Among the beasts such as Caliban and the Spirits of Nature, stands out Ariel.  Prospero imposes on them his upright and good authority.
